Your Driving License

About Your Driving License

Provisional Driving License

The Driving License Application form (D1) can be obtained from your Local Post Office. When sending your Driving License Application form to the DVLA, you will need to send a passport size photo, that has been countersigned by an authorised person. The form will explain more.

If you have an old style paper Driving License, you can still use this, but you will need to produce a valid current passport for the Driving Test Examiner. This is the only form of photographic identity acceptable.

EU and EEA License Holders

These Full Driving Licenses may be exchanged for the UK equivalent for the groups you have full entitlement for. Certain restrictions may apply.

Designated Countries

As a visitor from a Designated Country, your Driving License is valid for 12 months. As a resident, your Driving License is also valid for 12 months, but you may be able to exchange it for the UK equivalent.

The Rules on the Exchange of a Driving License are quite complex. The above information is a guide only. You must get confirmation of entitlement regarding your Driving License Exchange.

You can get all the Driving License Information  you need from the government website.
